DIY Pink Tips

For those who may have wondered how I went about dying the ends of my hair pink, I thought I'd share the how-to here.  I heard about the pink tips over at The Beauty Department and decided to try my hand at achieving it on my own hair.  To get the look, you'll need to pick up a tub of Davines Alchemic Red conditioner (it's conditioner for redheads).  I purchased one at my hair salon in Toronto (Salon Solis), but you can pick it up on Amazon (linked above) or try a beauty supply store (I paid $30 CAD for mine). When you're ready to try it out…

1. Shampoo your hair as you normally would;
2. Ring your hair out and slightly towel dry;
3. Apply the conditioner to the bottom ends of your hair (I covered about 4 inches, but you can cover more or less depending on the length of your hair and how much pink you want).  About two palmfuls of conditioner should do the trick;
4. Let it set for about 5 minutes (longer if you want a brighter pink);
5. Rinse hair and style as you normally would.

The colour isn't permanent and should last through 3-4 washes.  It also isn't damaging to the hair and even does a great job of conditioning it!  Unfortunately, it doesn't work on dark hair (unless your tips are lightened), but is perfect for us blondes.  A word of caution: make sure you don't drop any of the conditioner on light surfaces as it stains (I learned this the hard way).

Send us photos if you try it out yourselves!

xo,
Sam
