Central Park Chic, Part II: West Coast, Best Coast?

A few days ago we posted our first venture into NYC street style featuring Jessica from Orange County, California and the great, perfect-for-fall outfit she wore on an afternoon bike ride through Central Park.  Today, we're featuring another girl from California, which makes us wonder (since two out of the three girls we snapped were from Cali) if West Coast girls are eclipsing East Coast style. (Not likely.) (We love you Jess and Melissa!)

Onward!

Who:  Melissa from San Francisco, CA
What: Navy knit sweater, Banana Republic
          Sunglasses, RayBan
Boots, from a boutique in Nolita (Melissa if you remember the name of the
boutique, please comment!)  Coincidentally, Steve Madden sells a near-identical
pair in black for $249.95.  Check out them out: here.
Why we love it: You can't see it from this photo, but Melissa is wearing platform wedge boots, a must-have for fall/winter 2010.  (Don't believe me?  Take a peek at half the Bloomingdale's ads around the city!)  Her chunky knit sweater layered over a plain white long-sleeved tee and worn with form-fitting jeans is the ultimate pairing of comfort and style.  And who doesn't love themselves a great chunky scarf?

Giles Deacon (Fall RTW 2008).  (Admittedly, the above photo has nothing to do with Melissa's outfit except to showcase her scarf and similar, much larger versions of it on the runway.)  Perfect for those bitter cold California Canadian winters.  (Just kidding, but not really, I had a scarf this big two years ago when I was still living in Canada.)  I strongly advise against purchasing said style of scarf as it is clearly a public safety hazard, for reasons: a) it is nearly impossible to see over, and b) it could easily get caught in subway doors, leading to an untimely death of your person and/or the scarf itself.

We suggest sticking to Melissa's scarf style: just enough to keep you warm and the perfect finishing touch to a great outfit (not to mention safe).  You can nab Melissa's style by easily mixing together basic pieces from your closet.  And go out and treat yourself to a pair of wedge boots (I definitely will)!

Thanks, Melissa, for letting us steal you away from your friends and snap a few shots!  Up next is Central Park Chic Part III, featuring a Brooklynite with a budding new business! (P.S. My alliteration skills are on fire.)

xo,
SM
